May 2, 2017 – GLENDALE, AZ – FOX 10 is reporting a woman is dead and a pregnant woman has been hospitalized after a two-car car accident in Glendale near Missouri and Grand Avenues.
Authorities said a woman was killed and a pregnant woman was taken to the hospital, where she gave birth, after a head-on collision on Grand Avenue northwest of downtown Phoenix during Tuesday morning rush hour.

The accident occurred when a 28-year-old woman who was 35 weeks pregnant lost control of her minivan after it hit a tire that was in the road, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Here is the tweet by Glendale PD:

Grand Ave Southeast bound shut down at 51st Ave and Northwest bound shutdown at 43rd Ave for wreck near Grand Ave/Missouri. Please drive safe and use alternate routes. Roadway will be shutdown through the morning.

Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Ngalula had this to say about the accident:

“A white minivan was traveling Northwest bound on Grand Avenue and crossed over the raised median striking a black passenger car traveling Southeast bound on Grand Avenue near Missouri Avenue,” Ngalula said. “Detectives were able to determine that neither speed nor impairment were considered factors of the collision. The driver of the minivan struck a full-size tire mounted on a rim, that was an obstruction in the roadway. That collision caused her to lose control of the vehicle, crossing over the raised median, into oncoming traffic colliding with the passenger car in a head-on manner.”

The road was closed in both directions between 43rd and 51st avenues around 7 a.m. It was reopened around 1 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
