ABOUT CONTINGENT FEES
If it were not for contingent fee agreements, very few people would be able to afford lawyers for personal injury cases. That is because lawyers usually charge hundreds of dollars per hour (sometimes even a thousand dollars per hour, or more) for their time. Who can afford this? Very few people.
Under a contingent fee arrangement, the lawyer only gets paid if and when the lawyer handles the case successfully. So instead of getting paid on an hourly basis as the case proceeds along, the lawyer agrees to accept a percentage of the money the lawyer recovers for the client at the end of the case.
