Convertible Collides with School Bus Leaving a Young Mother Dead

By user on December 9, 2012

Dated September 22, 2011

Tuesday morning was a tragic one for Bridget Bruce, a young mother from Golden Valley, whose convertible collided with a school bus killing her and leaving her 5-year-old son severely injured.

Witnesses state that the white Chevrolet Cavalier smashed into the bus from the rear, just behind the rear axle. Some reports have stated that the car immediately burst into flames upon impact but others have stated there was no fire. The accident is still under investigation, currently, and no claims of fault have yet been made official. Of the 21 high school students on board only 11 were harmed and thankfully, only minor injuries were sustained. The bus driver escaped with minor injuries as well. The young boy’s mother was not nearly as lucky but he has now been listed in stable condition as of Wednesday.

While bus crashes are more rare than auto accidents there are still, on average, about 634,000 school bus accidents each year. Because of those accidents 17,000 school-aged children are sent to the emergency room for injuries and 20 children lost their lives. Our hearts and thoughts go out to the victims of this accident and all other like it.

Please drive safely and, as always, buckle up.
